Low-intensity exercises, such as yoga, walking and swimming are the perfect way to improve your health and fitness and lower your risk of heart disease, without harming your joints.

Here is an outline of low intensity exercise that doesn’t need to cost a fortune and can be done in your home or outdoors.

1. Walking
Walking works the cardiovascular system and burns calories. Walk briskly to get your heart rate up, picking up the pace can increase the intensity of your workouts. Add short bursts of speed or walk up a steep hill every now and then.

2. Dancing
Not only is dancing fun, releasing all those important endorphins, it is also a great way to get your heart rate up and get out and meet some new people.

3. Cycling
Cycling is a low-impact but it is important to start slowly and increase the length of your cycling sessions gradually.

4. Swimming
Swimming is one of the best ways to work the whole body and involves most of the muscle groups, not to mention being great for your heart and kind to your joints. 5. Yoga

6. Bowls
Bowls is good for posture, flexibility, balance and hand-eye co-ordination and can be enjoyed all year round. Its also a great way to socialise and meet new people, which is great for your overall wellbeing too.
